Milan Fashion Week has been one of the most awaited events in the Italian fashion industry since 1958 – year in which it became an iconic part of the Big Four – and it is nearly here. It is composed of many fashion shows including those dedicated to both of males and females, with the attention mostly focused on the prêt à porter collections for her.
Milan Fashion Week is coordinated by CNMI, acronym of National Chamber of Italian Fashion, which decides on the succession of the runways and location. It also gives the opportunity to many new talented designers to entry in the Italian fashion industry, thanks to their ability to express themselves through their art and therefore by giving them the chance to gain popularity.
Milan Fashion Week is an exclusive event, so unless you posses a press pass or a special invitation, it will be very difficult to be allowed in. But don’t worry! You can join the other numerous events that are organized in Milan, that could be related or not to the main event. You can join the fashion shows powered by Italian and International designers or the cocktail parties hosted in luxurious locations. White Milano is also one of the most exciting fashion events where you can enjoy the collections of many promising young designers. There are also many concerts and city cultural tours that will show you the greatness of Italian traditions.
Italians are also known for doing things on a large scale and this is easily noticeable during this period of the year in which the streets of Milan metaphorically change themselves in runways, where a lot of one of a kind styles are mixed, becoming a inspiration for many fashion lovers and for designers too. In fact the most genuine roots of the fashion are placed in the street style: fashion is the expression of personal taste which is the result of the influence of ethnic and multiethnic cultures.
This year, the location (which is at the moment secret ) of Milan Fashion Week is going to be the stage on which will parade some of the most famous Italian maisons such as Versace, Cavalli, Valentino, Laura Biagiotti and many others, all known for being the symbol of high-quality merchandise and for an over the top sophistication that turned the emblem ‘Made in Italy’ into a synonym of beauty.
None of the above-mentioned names are officialy confirmed and we will know more about the participants and the programme of each day thanks to the calendar that will be published in a few days. All we actually know is that the 2019/2020 A/W collection will be presented from the 19th to the 25th of February.
The reason why the collection is showed a year before the sales regards the production of fashion items that requires time to be finished – because most of the clothes detailes are manifactured – and distributed to the stores all over the world.
Along Milano Moda Donna which will be presented during the Milan Fashion Week, Milano Moda Uomo is another significant part in the Italian Fashion Industry, that took place this year between the 11th and the 14th February. It is one of the most famous events related to male fashion trends because it shows one of the elements of the Italian art at its finest.
